On 7 November 2012, to celebrate National Unity Day, the Russian Centre for Science and Culture (RCSC) in Valletta welcomed me and my students into the Tchaikovsky Hall for a concert of up-and-coming Maltese talent. My students, accompanied by two great musicians – Luke Grech on guitar and Andrew Triganza Scott on piano, put up a fabulous show. To keep up the tradition, I also sang two Russian songs – Nye uhodi pobud so mnoyu and A on mnye nravitsya. I would like to thank Oleg Beglov and his wife Viktoria at the RCSC for constantly giving us such opportunities like these.
Voices 2012 – Dream a little dream

As most of you know, I form part of a 200-strong choir and live band called Voices. Once every two years we dedicate our summer to raise funds for a deserving cause. This year’s edition was called Dream a little dream and was held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, Valletta on 3-7 and 10-14 October. This was my 12th year and still, every moment spent with my Voices family is special. I loved every minute of the rehearsals and of the concerts, and most of all, seeing the dedication, togetherness and commitment of this wonderful group of people.
This year’s repertoire consisted of a mixture of pop and rock classics from across the decades, including Beatles, Adele, Sting, Katy Perry, Zucchero, Queen, Abba, Alicia Keys, Pink Floyd, Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson. The proceeds raised from the concerts will be distributed between the lead project, Dar Mamma Margherita and several other organisations.

A Christmas Jingle

On Wednesday 21 December, Claire McCartin and Justine Odom, together with guitarist Edward Bonello, performed at the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Valletta, a selection of Christmas carols from the west and songs from wintry Russia, bringing everyone together in the anticipation of Christmas and the New Year. It was a successful event and all three performers got great reviews from all who attended.
