Eurovision 2018 in Portugal

This year, I was lucky enough to be asked to join the San Marino delegation at the Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon, Portugal. My student Jessika was performing the song “Who we are” accompanied by Jenifer Brening and a few robots on stage. It was a great opportunity for me to experience the energy pumping through the Altice Arena, to meet such talented singers from all over the world and the people behind the scenes, the teams who work hard to put up the best performance possible.

Bumping into the great Russian celebrity Filipp Kirkorov backstage:

IVACON 2018 in Edinburgh

Every year, I attend a teachers’ conference organised by the institute i am with – Institute for Vocal Advancement. This year’s IVACON was held in the sunny capital of Scotland, Edinburgh 😉

This is a week of networking with teachers from all over the world – I am the only Maltese certified with this institute and of course intensive teacher training, consisting of lectures like: Teaching beginning singers; lots of practical-based learning sessions with our Master Teachers; dealing with various types of issues in the voice, etc.  Continuing education in this field is important, it keeps you abreast of what is going on in vocal science and helps you improve every day as a teacher.

Bring on IVACON 2019…

One of the highlights was attending a fantastic master class ‘Breaking down the riffs’ with Broadway star Natalie Weiss. She was also part of the ensemble for the pre-recordings of The Greatest Showman. What a great voice and inspirational person!

The Greatest Showman Sing-Along

Students from the Claire McCartin Vocal Studio descended upon Eden Century Cinemas for The Greatest Showman Sing-Along on 25 February and sang their hearts out to the tunes of this great musical. A lot of fun, smiles all around and a great spirit of unity!
