And… in April I jetsetted off to San Diego for this year’s IVACON – our IVA teachers’ conference, where there were over 30 expert-led lectures covering IVA Core Vocal Pedagogy, vocal anatomy and function, applying vocal technique to different styles of music, marketing classes, running a better business, vocal science, and much more. Great experience! And now looking to put to the test all that I learnt there!

You don’t become a vocal instructor overnight. It’s a constant journey to improve yourself and to be a better teacher than you were yesterday. It’s been 8 years now of rigorous training, constant study, vocal research, own vocal training, nerve-wracking testing every year and keeping up to date with anything to do with the voice. Am so pleased to say that I have now passed my Panel Testing and reached Level 4 Advanced (out of 5 levels)… I would like to thank the six IVA Master Teachers – Guy Babusek, Stephanie Borm-Krueger, Linda Moosman Tomkinson, Kathy Kennedy, Spencer Welch and Jeffrey Skouson for their constant help in getting me this far, for their guidance and ongoing mentorship. And Joshua Alamu who started me on this road in the first place. And the journey continues…

Ms Lucienne Camilleri once again conducted one of her drama workshops for my students on Saturday 19 November 2016. Kids were first, then the teens. Much fun was had by all but also it was a learning experience how to act through song.
Belliegha musical

Thanks to the DLS Productions, I had the opportunity to work with the soloists of the musical BELLIEGHA this summer.
Also two of my younger students took part as creatures from the underworld.
BELLIEGĦA is a live rock musical with an original script and popular rock / pop-rock music to the likes of Bon Jovi, Pink Floyd, Simon and Garfunkel and many others, which have been moulded into the storyline to create a pulsating and energetic performance that will attract a mixed and diverse international audience.
Set in the darkest of times, when Turks pillaged and looted the Maltese islands, the story revolves around the Inguanez family and their three children: Lucia, Maria and Tinu. Lucia, the eldest, is betrothed to a young noble, Mikiel, despite being secretly in love with Ġamri, the baker’s son, and the Inguanez family is confronted with a peculiar love triangle. Disaster strikes when the two younger children go missing, pulled down a well by Belliegħa, who is bored of her dull, monotonous life. Maria and Tinu find themselves in the underworld, home of forgotten mythical Maltese creatures, such as Babaw, Sarangu and Saħħar. Secrets come to light and the promise of hope returns, but the search for the children causes imbalance and shatters the barriers between the two worlds.
